The work is in grounded in equity, and this communal trait can be expressed through many differing tactics. People do not fit very neatly into discreet boxes, and several factors can compound multiple prejudices into convoluted outcomes. This only generates unnecessary struggles. Untangling the web of prejudice, history, and institutionalized inequality is difficult work. Such challenges rely on broad support and a solid understanding of the many overlapping issues, and how they can be layered to create untenable circumstances. Most importantly, collective action and direct advocacy are the peaceful paths forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leveraging violence to foment a violent response is not a new tactic. Historically, it has been the final, desperate gasp of a failing oppressor that cannot maintain a grip on a platform of power built on manufactured righteousness. Peaceful and rational responses short circuit the attempt to incite an emotional response through threats and propaganda. Income for the top 1% of earners has grown exponentially, while income for the bottom 20% has remained stagnant. These top 1% currently make almost 139 times as much as the bottom 20% of earners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Universal Basic Income has been repeatedly discussed, and the looming bulge of worker displacement by AI is starting to have dramatic economic impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Economic disparities exist across all racial and gender segments. White households account for almost 85% of all wealth in the U.S. despite only making up 77% of the population. Women make up over half of the workforce, but represent only 17% of those top 1% earners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Economic inequality closes off access to social mobility, education, safe neighborhoods, contributes to food insecurity and negatively impacts health outcomes. It\u2019s also bad for society as a whole. Research has shown that income inequality not only leads to higher levels of debt and inflation, but also increases financial instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toxic capitalism and predatory competitive and employment practices have made dramatic expansions under the modern economy. The new gig workforce, characterized by single task disbursement for things like grocery shopping, food delivery, and transportation has undeniably provided some income to jobless workers. However, their rising saturation only foretells a shrinking volume of work for each individual driver. Dramatic, unambiguous  examples of racism are easy to spot, but there are many more smaller-scale incidents that fundamentally echo and reinforce these shadows of systemic racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, discriminatory practices against racial and ethnic minorities are perpetuated by people who never intended to be racist, and may not even be aware that racism is a contributing factor. A hiring manager deciding which applicants to interview may choose a candidate that just seems like a better fit without considering their own unconscious assumptions about the name, charitable work, or alma maters of the candidate. This unexamined pattern of behavior contains a subconscious bias, a shadowed discriminatory attitude and unformalized set of beliefs that do not get recognized for what they are by conscious thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Racial discrimination has a far-reaching impact on a global scale, folding in nationalities and language skills as well. It gets echoed in immigration policies, and working or student visas. Women face gender discrimination in hiring and workplace sexual harassment at far greater rates than men. Between 2018 and 2021, women filed over 78% of the sexual harassment complaints made to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gender injustice issues contribute to gender-based violence, including physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse. An analysis of data collected between 2000 and 2018 revealed that, worldwide, 30% of women have experienced sexual abuse from partners and non-partners in their lifetimes. These lingering attitudes are also brought into the trans fight for equality, echoing the attitude of fixed binary gender roles. Expectations and societal compacts are so deeply ingrained in common thinking that anyone stepping outside of these tenuous boundaries is perceived as threatening to the whole of society. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div data-wp-context=\"{ &quot;autoclose&quot;: false, &quot;accordionItems&quot;: [] }\" data-wp-interactive=\"core\/accordion\" role=\"group\" class=\"wp-block-accordion is-layout-flow wp-block-accordion-is-layout-flow\">\n<div data-wp-class--is-open=\"state.isOpen\" data-wp-context=\"{ &quot;id&quot;: &quot;accordion-item-4&quot;, &quot;openByDefault&quot;: false }\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.initAccordionItems\" data-wp-on-window--hashchange=\"callbacks.hashChange\" class=\"wp-block-accordion-item is-layout-flow wp-block-accordion-item-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-accordion-heading\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordion-item-4-panel\" data-wp-bind--aria-expanded=\"state.isOpen\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.toggle\" data-wp-on--keydown=\"actions.handleKeyDown\" id=\"accordion-item-4\" type=\"button\" class=\"wp-block-accordion-heading__toggle\"><span class=\"wp-block-accordion-heading__toggle-title\">Access to Education<\/span><span class=\"wp-block-accordion-heading__toggle-icon\" aria-hidden=\"true\">+<\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div inert aria-labelledby=\"accordion-item-4\" data-wp-bind--inert=\"!state.isOpen\" id=\"accordion-item-4-panel\" role=\"region\" class=\"wp-block-accordion-panel is-layout-flow wp-block-accordion-panel-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unequal funding creates a significant barrier to high-quality education for many students living districts with high poverty rates and those that mostly serve students from marginalized racial or ethnic minorities and groups. These districts cannot get the same resources as others that predominantly serve students from more privileged backgrounds. This may include highly-educated teachers, advanced placement coursework that prepares students for college, smaller class sizes and high-quality curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educational disparities contribute to higher drop-out rates, higher rates of poverty and less civic and political participation. These factors mean that the children of people who grew up without equal access to education are more likely to inherit the same challenges in accessing education in their turn. People of color and low-income communities, as well as developing nations, usually feel the most severe consequences of climate change. They often lack resources that would help mitigate the immediate effects, such as the time and money to travel somewhere cooler during a deadly heat wave, and may find themselves struggling with the choice of whether to stay in an increasingly uninhabitable area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re also disproportionately affected by daily health risks associated with climate change, such as heat stress, disease outbreaks and malnutrition. People affected by this have increased mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Black men in the U.S. are six times more likely to be incarcerated than white men, and 11.4% of black children have an incarcerated parent, compared to 1.8% of white children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mass incarceration also has widespread negative effects for communities. Instead, they have to shop at convenience stores, which have higher prices and prioritize selling unhealthy snack foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Food insecurity, even when it doesn\u2019t lead to hunger, increases the risk of chronic diseases. The work is in grounded in equity, and this communal trait can be expressed through many differing tactics. People do not fit very neatly into discreet boxes, and several factors can compound multiple prejudices into convoluted outcomes. This only generates unnecessary struggles. Untangling the web of prejudice, history, and institutionalized inequality is difficult work. Such challenges rely on broad support and a solid understanding of the many overlapping issues, and how they can be layered to create untenable circumstances. Most importantly, collective action and direct advocacy are the peaceful paths forward. Leveraging violence to foment a violent response is not a new tactic. Historically, it has been the final, desperate gasp of a failing oppressor that cannot maintain a grip on a platform of power built on manufactured righteousness. Peaceful and rational responses short circuit the attempt to incite an emotional response through threats and propaganda.
